The trio of clubs all earned promotion back to the top flight, but will be looking to end a run of six teams in a row all going straight back down to the Championship at the first attempt.

Leicester City, Southampton and Ipswich Town have all been relegated this season after earning promotion 12 months ago.

They also earned a record low combined points tally for the bottom three sides in the Premier League, raising concerns over how difficult it has become to establish a side in the division.

Scholes has identified the ability to regularly score goals as they key to promoted sides staying up in the Premier League.

He criticised Ipswich for not going for it enough this year after being so attacking in the Championship, suggesting that the best chance to stay up is to provide a strong attacking threat.

"I always think when a team comes up — if they can score goals, they’ve got half a chance,” said Scholes, via The Overlap on YouTube.

“I said it about Ipswich.

“You’re such an attacking team but they came to the Premier League and got hammered by everyone.

“But didn’t really go for it the way they did [in the Championship].

“I always think, if you’ve got goals in your team, it gives you a chance.”

Championship top scorers 24/25

Leeds scored the most goals of any side in the Championship last season, finding the back of the net 95 times.

The next most prolific team was Norwich City, who managed just 71 goals in comparison.

Burnley were the third highest scoring team, with 69 goals to their name, while Régis Le Bris’ side scored 58 times as they earned promotion through the play-offs.

Leeds are best placed to end promotion rut

Sides promoted to the Premier League are in a historically poor run, but Leeds are in the best position to end that rut.

Their impressive goal-scoring ability will be key to Daniel Farke’s side remaining in the division beyond just one campaign.

They have attacking threats like Joel Piroe, Dan James, Manor Solomon and Wilfried Gnonto, and there is the possibility that they use the transfer market to strengthen that frontline even further.

Meanwhile, Burnley and Sunderland will need to add goals to their squad in the market this summer if they’re to have any chance at staying up.
