Real Madrid and Bayern Munich meet in a massive Champions League quarter-final tie tonight.
The Spanish giants welcome the German champions to the Bernabeu, in a fixture often dubbed the European Clásico. Real Madrid and Bayern Munich share 21 Champions League crowns between them and both are considered among the leading contenders again.
Real boast the better of the recent head-to-head meetings and are unbeaten in the last nine. Bayern’s last win against the Spaniards came back in 2012, with the Bundesliga side having been eliminated from this competition in each of their last four ties with Real Madrid.
However, Vincent Kompany’s team have been formidable this season. Bayern have scored 100 goals in just 28 league games and are closing in on the Bundesliga’s all-time goal record.
In a respectful build-up, Kompany has called the challenge the toughest trip in Europe. He said Real Madrid’s weekend loss at Mallorca has had no impact on his preparations.
“We have to prepare for the best version of Real Madrid, the one that played against Man City. They’re still one of the best teams in Europe,” the Bayern boss said.
“It’s probably the toughest away fixture in the Champions League.”
Real Madrid face Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie on Tuesday 7th April. The clash will kick-off at 8pm BST at the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid, Spain.
Viewers in the UK can watch the match on TNT Sports 1 with coverage starting at 7pm BST. It will also be streamed on HBO Max.
