Aaron Mooy had positive spells with Huddersfield Town and Celtic during his career before he retired aged 32.
Huddersfield Town have endured a tough few years as they prepare for another season in League One.
After Kevin Nagle bought the club in 2023, the aim was to reach the Premier League, but sadly for the Terriers, they have gone backwards since.
Nevertheless, long-term ambitions remain in place, and whilst it may seem a long way away, Huddersfield are a club who have defied the odds in the past.
Most notably, in recent times, the Yorkshire outfit memorably won promotion to the Premier League under the guidance of David Wagner.
Whilst it was a real team effort, there’s no doubt that Aaron Mooy was integral to the Terriers.
The midfielder joined on an initial loan from Man City, and he immediately looked a class above, thanks to his intelligence and technical ability.
Mooy, who would join permanently following promotion, carried that form into the Premier League, as he starred as Huddersfield once again shocked neutrals, this time by staying in the top-flight.
The Australian’s time at Huddersfield did end on a sad note, as the side were relegated during his third campaign in a blue-and-white shirt, and a move felt inevitable.
Brighton would sign Mooy, and even though he showed flashes of his ability, he failed to discover his best form on a consistent basis, with a switch to Shanghai SIPG sorted in the summer of 2020.
However, he would return to Britain a few years later, as he reunited with former Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou at Celtic.
The Glasgow giants got a taste of why Mooy was so popular at Huddersfield, as he ended up playing an important role for Celtic as they won a treble, with fans appreciating his classy style on the pitch.
But, Mooy decided to retire from football after that season, at the age of 32, which came as a surprise to many.
During his career, the 57-cap international would not seek the limelight, and he appeared very low maintenance for whichever club he was at.
Therefore, Mooy was always likely to step away from the game after his retirement, and that has proven to be the case.
He is relatively active on social media, which gives fans an insight into his life, with Mooy regularly sharing images on Instagram with family and friends out in Australia.
It appears his hobbies include surfing, whilst he did feature for Tim Cahill’s XI against a Ronaldinho XI in an exhibition match last year.
As well as that, Mooy is happy to reflect on some big moments in his career, with goals from his time with the Socceroos and Huddersfield appearing on his Instagram.
Ultimately, he appears to be loving life in retirement, and all connected to Huddersfield and Celtic will wish him well considering the big contributions he made to their success during his time at the respective clubs.
