We looked at who Norwich City's highest earner was in the 2014-15 season and what they are up to these days.
It is fair to say that the 2014-15 season was one to remember for Norwich City supporters.
Despite being relegated from the Premier League during his caretaker spell the previous season, Norwich appointed Neil Adams as their new permanent manager in the summer of 2014, and it initially looked to be a smart decision with the club sitting top of the table in early October.
However, Adams was sacked in January after a decline in form over the winter months, departing with the Canaries in seventh place, and he was replaced by Hamilton Academical manager Alex Neil.
It was a big gamble by Norwich to appoint Neil, who was just 33 years old at the time, but he proved to be an inspired choice, and he almost led the club to automatic promotion, but they eventually finished the season in third place.
In hindsight, Canaries supporters may actually be glad they missed out on the top two as, after a memorable victory over bitter East Anglian rivals Ipswich Town in the semi-finals, they secured promotion with a 2-0 win over Middlesbrough in the play-off final.
Almost a decade on from Norwich's Wembley success, we looked back at who the club's highest paid player was in the 2014-15 season and what they are up to these days.
According to Capology, Norwich's biggest earner in the 2014-15 season was defender Sebastien Bassong, who received £30,000 per week and £1,560,000 per year, although it should be stressed that those figures are an estimate.
Bassong joined the Canaries from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2012, reuniting with manager Chris Hughton after they worked together previously at Newcastle United, and he won the club's Player of the Season award in his first year at the club.
However, despite captaining the side for much of the following season, he immediately fell out of favour after Adams replaced Hughton, and he was loaned out to promotion rivals Watford in October 2014.
Bassong made 11 appearances for the Hornets before returning to Carrow Road in January 2015, and after being brought back into the fold by Neil, he played a crucial role as Norwich won promotion via the play-offs.
As Watford also achieved promotion to the Premier League during the 2014-15 campaign, Bassong ended up receiving two promotion medals in recognition of his contribution to the success of both clubs.
While Bassong was the Canaries' highest paid player, a number of his team-mates were also on significant wages, including John Ruddy (£25,000 per week), Gary Hooper (£21,404 per week) and Jos Hooiveld and Michael Turner (both £18,000 per week).
After a turbulent five-year spell at the club, during which he won promotion from the Championship and suffered two relegations from the Premier League, Bassong was released by Norwich in the summer of 2017.
Bassong was without a club for the entirety of the 2017-18 season after his departure from Carrow Road, but he returned to football when he signed a short-term contract with League One side Peterborough United in October 2018.
The 38-year-old made just one EFL Trophy appearance for Posh during his two-month spell at the Weston Homes Stadium, and he then made the move to Greek side Volos in the summer of 2019, but he did not fare much better there, featuring just three times.
While Bassong did play for non-league side Haringey Borough in a pre-season friendly in September 2020, his exit from Volos marked the end of his professional football career, and according to his Instagram, he now works as a transitional coach, consultant, motivational speaker and pundit.
Bassong can frequently be found doing punditry work for the BBC, and as recently as last month, he gave his view on the troubles his former club Tottenham are currently facing under Ange Postecoglou.
