Erling Haaland netted another hat-trick on Saturday in the 3-1 win over West Ham, making it two in a row after also scoring three against Ipswich the week before.

He has now scored eight Premier League hat-tricks in just 69 games, four behind Sergio Aguero’s record of 12 which was achieved in 275 games.

But can Haaland break some of the biggest goalscoring records in the world of football? We take a closer look…

Quickest to 100 Premier League goals?

Haaland will surely also break the record for the quickest player to 100 Premier League goals, also held by Shearer who it took just 124 games. Haaland already has 70 in 69 so it would take a significant drop off for him not to do it.

Top Manchester City goalscorer?

Sergio Aguero holds the record for the most goals in a Manchester City shirt at 260. Haaland is currently on 97 in just over two seasons playing for the club so could feasibly break Aguero’s record in just a few more seasons if he stays at the club.

Most goals in a season in all competitions by a top-flight player in England?

Dixie Dean’s famous 63-goal record in all competitions is the most from a top-flight player in England, which was set all the way back in the 1927-28 season. Haaland was not that far off in the 2022-23 season and has started this season on fire, so could he be the one to break it?

Premier League top goalscorer?

The big one. Alan Shearer’s record of 260 goals still stands, and does not look set to be broken by Harry Kane unless he moves back to the Premier League again sometime in the very near future. Haaland is currently on 70 Premier League goals in just 69 games, so 30 Premier League goals in each of his next six seasons would take him to 250 and just ten behind Shearer. It is very feasible but will of course depend on whether Haaland opts to stay in the Premier League or not.

Champions League top goalscorer?

This record will take something very special to beat, with Cristiano Ronaldo having scored 140 goals in 183 Champions League appearances. But Haaland is already 19th on that list having scored 41 goals in 39 games. If he continues at his current rate, it would take him about 130 more games to break the record set by Ronaldo.

Breaking the record for the most club goals in professional football would be a tall order. That record is also held by Ronaldo at 769, and he’s still scoring at a rapid rate in Saudi Arabia. Haaland currently sits on 232, according to Transfermarkt. 50 goals a season for the next 11 seasons would take him to 782 and ahead of Ronaldo’s current figure, but who knows how long he will carry on scoring for?

Most goals ever?

The biggest record of all is also, unsurprisingly, currently held by Ronaldo – the record for the most goals scored ever by a footballer across club and international football, netting 899 times and counting. Lionel Messi, meanwhile, is second on the list with 838 and Pele is third with 762. We’ve done the maths and believe Haaland’s current goal tally sits at 262. If Haaland scored 50 goals in each of his next 13 seasons, he would break Ronaldo’s current record, which speaks volumes about the incredible level of consistency from the former Real Madrid man.
