Record-breaking contract sends shockwaves across the top five leagues

Who just overtook Mbappe as Europe’s highest-paid player? Full Top 10 earners revealed
Erling Haaland has officially become the highest-paid footballer across Europe’s top five leagues (England, Spain, Italy, France and Germany) following his new long-term contract with Manchester City, signed in January 2025 and running until 2034.
According to Transfermarkt, Haaland now earns staggering €31.7 million per year edging out Kylian Mbappe (€31.3m, Real Madrid) to lead the list.
The Norwegian’s record-breaking deal solidifies his position as both the world’s top goalscorer and its highest earner.
At just 25 Haaland’s performances continue to match his salary. His brace against Bournemouth took him to 26 goal this season (13 in 10 Premier League matches) extending his incredible scoring record to 141 goal in 159 game since joining City in 2022.
If he scores just two more league goals in his next 16 matches, Haaland will surpass Alan Shearer’s record as the fastest player ever to reach 100 Premier League goals.
