Three Lions could get a chance to exact some revenge on potential final opponents
The Three Lions face off against old foe Argentina on Wednesday in the second semi-final, looking to reach the showpiece for their first time since their sole tournament win in 1966.
It is the first time England have faced Argentina in 21 years, when two late goals from Michael Owen sealed a thrilling 3-2 friendly win in 2005.
That ended a fairly regular run of meetings, from England’s World Cup last-16 exit on penalties in 1998 to David Beckham’s redemption four years later.
But should they record another win over Argentina, focus will immediately turn to Sunday’s showpiece.
Spain beat France 2-0 in Arlington, Texas on Tuesday night.
Mikel Oyarzabal opened the scoring for La Roja before Pedro Porro sealed the victory in the second half to book their place in this week’s final.
The World Cup final takes place at 8pm BST on Sunday, July 19, 2026.
The New York/New Jersey Stadium - more commonly known a the MetLife Stadium - will host the game.
