Nicolò Zaniolo has returned to Galatasaray after a disappointing loan spell in Serie A in 2024-25, but who will give him another chance this season?
Once regarded as one of the most exciting Italian talents out there, ex-Roma star Zaniolo is facing, perhaps, the most challenging moment of his career.
The versatile striker has returned to Galatasaray after a disappointing one-season loan spell in Serie A in 2024-25, when he played first for Atalanta and then for Fiorentina.
However, the 26-year-old failed to fulfil his potential in Bergamo and Florence, returning to Galatasaray, where he has a contract until June 2027.

Zaniolo scored three goals and provided as many assists in 36 appearances across all competitions last term, but was never a regular starter for either Atalanta or Fiorentina.
The Italian striker has resumed training with Galatasaray in recent days and was even praised by the coach of the Turkish giants.
“Zaniolo is a talented player and we want to observe him closely during this preparation period,” said Okan Buruk via TMW.
“He’s working well, and everything is going the right way. He sent positive signals in terms of discipline and understanding of the game in friendlies. He’s an important element for us.”
According to TMW, Villarreal, Oviedo, Sunderland, and PSV have recently expressed interest in Zaniolo, while Flamengo have also been linked with a move for the former Roma star.
Back in 2023, Zaniolo was involved in a betting investigation alongside other Italian players, most notably Sandro Tonali and Nicolò Fagioli. However, contrary to his compatriots, Zaniolo was not banned as he proved he didn’t place bets on football games, but only played online blackjack, which is not forbidden by federal rules.
One of the most talented and controversial players of his generation, Zaniolo contributed to Roma’s 2021-22 Conference League victory thanks to a goal in the Final against Feyenoord.

However, in the following January, the Giallorossi sold him to Galatasaray on a permanent €15m deal, having failed to reach an agreement over his contract extension.
Zaniolo made his senior Italy debut in 2019 and has scored two goals in 19 international appearances to date.
His Azzurri career will undoubtedly be tied to achievements and performances at a club level, which is why Zaniolo needs to secure regular playing time in the 2025-26 season, finally proving himself up to expectations, regardless of his next destination.
Whether he stays or Galatasaray or leaves again, Zaniolo knows that, being 26, he may not have many other opportunities to prove his worth. The big question is: Who will give him a new chance?
