Anna Csiki scored an important goal to give West Ham United a point in a 2-2 draw against fellow strugglers Liverpool last weekend.

However, they have a rather different task on Sunday as they face Women’s Super League leaders Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the Subway Women’s League Cup.

And after manager Rehanne Skinner parted ways with the club on Thursday, Csiki reiterated that the Hammers need to stick to their plan if they’re to have any chance of success.

“We respect every single team that we face but they’ll have eleven players on the pitch, we’ll have eleven players on the pitch so we’re just going to try to play our football and beat them,” she said in quotes shared by the club.

“We’ve had a good run in the Cup so far so we just want to try to continue that. There were a lot of positives to take from the Liverpool game and from the games before that one. I feel like we’ve been taking steps forward. We just have to stick to our game plan and we’ll do everything we can to beat City and get through to the next round.”

Anna Csiki: We’ve got to take those chances

The two teams faced each other in the league last month, with City winning by a solitary goal.

And Csiki thinks the closeness of that scoreline will give West Ham some confidence going into the cup match.

“We’ve been watching clips of that game and we had some big chances. We hit the bar as well in the first half. We’ve just got to take those chances that we create because we know we’re facing a really good team.”

Looking back on the 2-2 draw against Liverpool last weekend, she said: “After the game everyone was very frustrated. The game was in our hands and we didn’t take our chances. We’ve analysed the game, we’ve talked about it a lot and talked about the solutions for the next game. We’re just working on what we want to do on Sunday and focusing on the game against Manchester City.

“Drawing 2-2 with Liverpool has made us even more hungry to win against City. We’ve been doing really well in the Cup and we just want to continue those positive performances.”
