Aston Villa face another balancing act this summer as Unai Emery prioritises attacking reinforcements, seeking to build on Europa League success. Despite Champions League qualification, they must tread carefully to comply with a UEFA settlement following a financial fair play breach.

ExpressAndStar.com reports that the head coach wants pace out wide, with two wingers targeted, and a striker. The search for a centre-forward places some doubt over Tammy Abraham’s future, while a right-sided defender is also sought to compete with Matty Cash.

Any arrivals will need to be balanced by exits. Villa are prepared to offload Leon Bailey and Evann Guessand, and the future of goalkeeper Emi Martinez remains uncertain. There are claims talks have taken place between Juventus and the Argentina international’s agent, though Villa are yet to receive any formal approach.

Much may hinge on Morgan Rogers, the Halesowen-born midfielder who has several suitors. Villa are reluctant to sell and are expected to demand at least £100m for one of Emery’s most important players.

Rogers is not pushing to leave and no movement is expected until after the World Cup.

Villa’s attacking shortlist includes Newcastle winger Harvey Barnes and Paris Saint-Germain teenager Ibrahim Mbaye.
