The return of La Liga giants Barcelona to the Spotify Camp Nou is set to be pushed back to early next year.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who have on Monday provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.

Renovations, of course, have long been underway at Barcelona’s beloved home ground.

Amid efforts to bring the Camp Nou in line with some of football’s most modern stadiums, the Blaugrana brass green-lighted a major makeover, which will see everything from stands, facilities and fan experience upgraded.

The hope had long been that the venue would be opened to fans towards the end of this year, albeit at a reduced capacity of around 60%.

As alluded to above, however, if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, then this will not be the case.

As per a report from Sport, UEFA will not allow for any club playing in the Champions League to host home fixtures at two different stadiums.

With Barcelona currently playing their home matches at Montjuïc, this means that the Camp Nou would not be an option for European action until February at the earliest.

The Blaugrana brass have no intention of keeping two stadiums up-and-running simultaneously, owing chiefly to the costs involved, meaning the return of Hansi Flick’s troops to the Camp Nou will need to wait until 2025.
