The unusual kick-off time for Manchester United’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace on Sunday has finally been explained.

United looking to make things right

Following a promising run of form in which they went five games unbeaten, United were brutally brought back down to earth on Monday evening as they suffered a 1-0 loss at the hands of Everton.

Everton played large parts of the game with 10 men after Idrissa Gueye was sent off inside 14 minutes for striking his teammate, Michael Keane.

Yet, despite having the numerical disadvantage, the Toffees scored first, through Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. The midfielder curled the ball into the back of the net past the reach of Senne Lammens, who could not get a strong enough hand on the effort.

United produced a tepid performance and were unable to break down Everton’s stubborn and compact defensive shape.

The Red Devils are now winless in their last three Premier League appearances, having drawn with Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur before the Everton loss.

It doesn’t get easier for Ruben Amorim and his players as they’re poised to face Palace on Sunday at Selhurst Park. But the match is scheduled to kick off at the unusual time of 12:00 GMT.

Palace vs. United kick-off explained

Usually on a Sunday, games are played at 14:00 GMT before the match of the weekend kicks off at 16:30 GMT.

Palace vs. United was originally selected by TNT Sports for live coverage and their regular slot of 12:30 GMT on Saturday.

However, due to Palace’s commitments in the UEFA Europa Conference League on Thursday, the kick-off time was pushed. Palace were beaten 2-1 by Strasbourg at Stade de la Meinau.

The Premier League is enforcing a minimum 60-hour gap between fixtures. Moving the game to Sunday at 12:00 GMT gives Oliver Glasner’s side a 64-hour recovery period.

Three of the subsequent Premier League games (Aston Villa vs. Wolves, Nottingham Forest vs. Brighton and West Ham vs. Liverpool) have consequently been pushed back to start at 14:05 GMT to avoid any potential overlap.
