Chelsea captain Millie Bright remains absent from the squad

Sonia Bompastor has confirmed that Millie Bright will miss Chelsea’s trip to Everton in the Women’s Super League this weekend.

The Blues club website adds that Bright has been out with an ankle injury since early February, picked up in the match against Tottenham Hotspur.

And Aggie Beever-Jones will be another notable absence, missing her fifth game in a row.

“I think Millie’s rehab is taking longer than we hoped, but Aggie is close to a return – not for this weekend, but probably the following weekend,” Bompastor said in her pre-match press conference.

Defending champions Chelsea travel to Goodison Park on Sunday as they continue their seemingly improbable quest to close the nine-point gap on WSL leaders Manchester City – who also have a much better goal difference with three games remaining.

Sonia Bompastor on Stamford Bridge switch

Earlier, Bompastor had spoken about what it means for her and the players to play all their WSL matches at Stamford Bridge next season.

“The most important thing as a player and a manager is to share your emotions with the fans,” she explained.

“For me to play all the games in this stadium next season is really motivational and so exciting for us. We will give our all, as we have done already, but that extra motivation will come when we have the opportunity to lift a trophy in this stadium. That’s part of what we want to create.

“We have been talking about growing and improving – and this move gives us the opportunity to grow our fan base. That’s what we want to do.

“For that, I know my job will be to make sure we are successful, putting really good performances on the pitch, to win as many games as we can so that we bring as many fans as we can.”
