England women’s boss Sarina Wiegman admits Chloe Kelly’s lack of game time at Manchester City is a concern despite selecting the forward in her latest squad.
Wiegman has announced a 25-player squad for the final international window of 2024, with England taking on USA and then Switzerland.
The squad selection has seen a number of familiar faces missing, including Ella Toone and Lauren Hemp who are sidelined due to injuries.
One of the standout selections has been Chloe Kelly, however, who has had a lack of game time at Manchester City this season.
Wiegman addressed the issue during the squad announcement, acknowledging her concerns.
“I think it’s a concern right now, already,” Wiegman said.
“It’s a hard situation. Competition at Man City is high too but we also have to look at who is available for our squad. We have some injuries up front. Lauren Hemp is injured, Lauren James is injured.
“Chloe knows she’s not in the best position at club at the moment but has enough credit, and relating to the whole team and availability of the players.”
Lauren James and Lotte Wubben-Moy are also significant players missing due to fitness concerns while Manchester United’s Gabby George has received her first call up since 2022.
