Wigan Athletic head coach Ryan Lowe is under increasing pressure as the Latics linger too near the League One relegation zone for comfort.

Tuesday's 2-0 defeat at Wycombe Wanderers left the Greater Manchester side just one point and two places clear of the third-tier drop zone, with 19 league fixtures remaining.

The Latics successfully came back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 with Doncaster Rovers last Saturday, but they were unable to take any momentum into their encounter with Wycombe.

Meanwhile, Wigan supporters are growing increasingly fed up with the former Preston North End boss, especially on social media, while others have voiced their discontent at owner Mike Danson.

The Latics may be in for another difficult afternoon in League One this Saturday, when they welcome second-place Lincoln City to the Brick Community Stadium.

Meanwhile, Football League World asked our Wigan fan pundit, Corey Bissell, if Lowe's time with the North West side was up in his eyes.

Bissell told FLW: "His time's up for me. As much as we can aim criticism at the board and at Gregor Rioch for the recruitment, and the fact that we've got so many loan players, and we're not spending money on permanent signings, this squad for the next four months is good enough to stay up in this league.

"It's good enough to finish comfortably mid-table in this league, and Ryan Lowe's not getting it out of them. Ultimately, I think we need to go back to a back four. I think we need to get our best players in the positions they're comfortable in. We need to get Fraser Murray on the left wing, where he was so good in Scotland.

"We need to have full-backs behind wingers, who can just be allowed to attack, rather than come back and play full-back. We're trying to bend to a system, similarly to Manchester United. We're trying to play a 3-4-3, and we just don't have the players for it. Let wingers be wingers, let full-backs be full-backs. Sometimes it is that simple."

Ryan Lowe must change system as last roll of the dice

Wigan's League One struggles are summed up by the fact that only bottom side Port Vale, who are 12 points adrift of safety, have won fewer third-tier games than the Latics this term.

The Greater Manchester side have failed to earn a victory in the league since the turn of the year, but Lowe remains insistent on his wing-back system every game.

If the 47-year-old remains in the Latics dugout for Saturday's encounter with Lincoln, he should alter his formation, which is clearly not getting the best out of his squad, as alluded to by Bissell.

For instance, wingers such as Murray and Raphael Borges Rodrigues are being made to sacrifice their attacking output, whereas there is no room for players who are full-backs by trade, like Steven Sessegnon.
