Will Still has been out of a job since leaving Southampton at the start of November, after just five months in the job.

The Anglo-Belgian manager joined the EFL Championship club after just one season at RC Lens. Still also managed Stade de Reims, and a return to France was touted earlier this month. His name was heavily linked with the job at FC Nantes

Luís Castro was in the post at the time, but was under pressure, having won just two of his 15 games in charge of the club. Still rejected the approach from Les Canaris, as he has now confirmed. “It was a timing problem; the timing wasn’t ideal. My staff members are still at a club,” said the now-former Southampton manager on Canal Plus

Nantes did ultimately choose to sack Castro, despite Still’s rejection. Ahmed Kantari has been promoted and has taken interim charge until the end of the season. He lost his first game in charge (4-1 against SCO Angers) over the weekend.

Still then went on to evoke his future. “I want to make the right choice. I don’t want to get into something where I don’t have all the information and where I don’t have control. I thanked the Kita family, but I preferred to take a step back from the situation. I hope that they (Nantes) stay up,” he said.
