Inter Miami did its homework. The Herons beat the Seattle Sounders at Chase Stadium by a score of 3-1. The goals from Las Garzas were delivered by Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Ian Fray.
In what ended up being an incredible game by Inter Miami, Javier Mascherano has finally matured as a coach and learned from his past mistakes.
I believe this will be the toughest article I’ll write about. From start to finish, the Herons were impeccable in every aspect of the match.
However, like in every encounter, some players stood out more than others. That’s why, from InterHeron, I present you the Winners vs. Losers from the outstanding victory against the Sounders.
It’s worth noting. The players listed in the losers category didn’t necessarily play badly; rather, within the team’s overall good performance, they were the weakest.
Ian Fray: The line of five gave Ian Fray the freedom he needed to exploit his offensive capabilities. Always putting himself as support for any pass, and following the attack to create more danger. Fray was everywhere on the right side of the field.
You could see him attack with determination, while also giving a hand to Lujan to stop the speedster from the Sounders. That determination ended with him heading a beautiful ball into the net to conclude the match.
Knowing that the Sounders' weak points were on the sidelines, giving him a free path paid off.
Lionel Messi: It would be disrespectful not to name the player responsible for two of the three goals scored tonight. The Argentinian forward played an incredible game.
Understanding when to attack directly and when to slow down the game to retain possession. His quick dribble confused every Seattle Sounder player. They couldn’t figure out how to take the ball away from his feet.
This results in more than one player marking him, leaving open spaces for his teammates; that’s how the first goal was scored.
Yannick Bright: The silent agent. Without being in the flashes or the highlights, Yannick Bright has played one of his best games with the pink shirt.
Not letting Cristian Roldan generate plays, and stopping anything that happened behind Messi and De Paul’s backs.
Bright’s ball recovery started the sequence that led to the second goal, giving Inter Miami a crucial advantage in the attacking third.
Noah Allen: The young defender had a regular game, not good or bad, just regular. The Greek left back alternates crucial passes with silly defensive mistakes.
On more than one occasion, the Sounders almost found themselves with the goal after a wrong decision from Allen. It’s clear that Noah is still adjusting to a position he is not comfortable.
Gonzalo Lujan: Like Noah, he is in this list because of the details. It’s not his fault that he had to mark Georgi Minoungou, who was on fire that night.
The opposing winger surpasses the Argentinian many times, even in the Herons’ own box. Afterwards, and this is something that happens in every game, the center back must improve his passes and ball control.
Yesterday, because he wasn’t pressured, but against Charlotte, for example, he had a tough time making good ball decisions.
