Liverpool attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz bagged the winner as the Reds beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 at Anfield.

Wirtz joined Liverpool this summer in a £116 million deal but struggled to find his groove, alongside many of his teammates.

However, he has been looking much better of late, culminating in a first Premier League goal for the German playmaker.

Just last week, he provided his first league assist versus Tottenham Hotspur, showing signs of life after a torrid start to life in Merseyside.

Liverpool insider Lewis Steele revealed how Wirtz has been on a ‘special programme’ to come to grips with the Premier League.

Steele said (via the Daily Mail), “The 22-year-old has been on a special programme to bulk up to the intensity of English football with Wirtz putting on around two kilograms.

“Hard shifts in the gym are finally paying dividends and, in this game, he looked two or three steps ahead of everyone else on the pitch.”

The program is clearly paying off as Wirtz looks like the version of himself that rose to prominence at Bayer Leverkusen for his decisiveness in the final third.

Manager Arne Slot was impressed by his performance and raved about his display.

However, the onus is now on him to carry on this form.

Liverpool have quietly edged their way back into the top four, but staying there will hinge on whether Wirtz can sustain this upward curve through the business end of the season.

This is precisely why he was signed to decide tight games, unlock stubborn defences and deliver moments when margins are razor-thin.

Slot’s system relies heavily on intelligent movement between the lines, and when Wirtz is sharp, Liverpool look fluid and unpredictable in attack.

Consistency, not flashes, will now define his first campaign in England.

The physical adaptation appears complete. The next step is maintaining tempo, output and influence across successive high-pressure fixtures.

With rivals circling and little room for error, Liverpool cannot afford his level to dip again.
