Wöber ‘to join’ Schalke after Innsbruck medical

Maximilian Wöber has completed a medical at Schalke’s pre-season camp in Innsbruck as a transfer edges closer.

Sky Germany and Sport BILD report that he will complete a move to Schalke shortly.

The 28-year-old remains under contract with Leeds United and trained individually at the camp on Tuesday. He is expected to sign a performance-based contract.

Wöber spent last season on loan at Werder Bremen, making only four appearances as injuries curtailed his involvement. Werder did not take up their €four million purchase option.

Before that, he had a loan spell at Borussia Mönchengladbach. Wöber’s arrival likely means Felix Uduokhai will not join the Royal Blues from Turkish Süper Lig side Beşiktaş.
