Wolverhampton Wanderers are considering appointing Gary O’Neil or Rob Edwards as their new manager (h/t BBC Sport).
The Midlands club sacked Vitor Pereira on Sunday after a disastrous start to the Premier League season.
Wolves are at the bottom of the table after losing eight of their 10 fixtures and registering just two points. Edwards and O’Neil are potential replacements for Pereira.
Edwards is currently managing Middlesbrough in the Championship.
The former Wales international has made an impressive start to life on Teesside, with his team currently sitting second in the table with 25 points.
Edwards may be unwilling to jump ship so soon, especially when Boro are doing so well under him.
O’Neil is a surprise contender. He became the Wolves coach in 2023 after Julen Lopetegui left due to disputes with the board.
The Englishman led the club to a 14th-place finish in his first season, but was dismissed in December last year following a dismal run of results.
Whoever is appointed, the new boss will face a massive challenge to keep Wolves in the Premier League.
They lost Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri this summer and have not adequately replaced them.
Several new players were signed, but the squad lacks quality and cohesion.
