Sunderland continued their impressive start to the Premier League season, claiming a 2-0 victory over Wolves at the Stadium of Light.
The result leaves the Black Cats climbing to seventh, while Wolves remain rooted at the bottom with just two points from eight matches.
The breakthrough came in the 16th minute when Nordi Mukiele capitalised on a neat one-two with Trai Hume to slot a composed finish between Sam Johnstone’s legs.
It was a well-worked move that rewarded Sunderland’s early pressure and gave Regis Le Bris’ side the perfect platform to control the game. Hume almost doubled the lead moments later, seeing a header from a Mukiele long throw cannon back off the post.
Wolves improved after the break, enjoying a spell of possession and peppering the Sunderland box with crosses, but they lacked the precision and composure to turn dominance into goals.
The hosts put the game beyond doubt deep into added time when Ladislav Krejci inadvertently deflected the ball into his own net. The own goal handed the Black Cats a second and secured a third home win of the campaign, extending their unbeaten home run in the early season.
