Wolves fans voiced shock after the club dismissed head coach Rob Edwards on Thursday morning while he was on holiday abroad.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, Wolves are set to appoint Portuguese coach Cesar Peixoto as his successor.

The decision comes only days after the arrivals of Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez, and it is understood Edwards was heavily involved in summer recruitment and appeared in Jimenez’s announcement video.

Brazilian midfielder Andre had praised Edwards when signing a new contract, and the pair are understood to have built a strong relationship.

Edwards, 43, led Luton Town to promotion to the Premier League, then took the Wolves job in November last year when relegation already appeared inevitable.

Many supporters questioned the timing, saying he should have had early Championship matches to show his approach and noting concerns over Peixoto’s lack of experience in the division.

Others backed the move, arguing an immediate change was preferable and expressing hope Peixoto can mirror Nuno Espirito Santo’s successful spell at Molineux.

Peixoto, 46, has managed exclusively in the Portuguese league system.
