Wolves striker Tolu Arokodare set to join Ajax after training ground bust up with manager | OneFootball

Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Tolu Arokodare is set to join Ajax, according to O Jogo.

The two clubs have agreed an initial loan deal, with the Eredivisie giants having an option to make the transfer permanent for around £17 million.

The Nigerian striker has had a difficult time at Wolves, but the recent training ground bust-up with new manager Cesar Peixoto was the last straw.

Wolves had to call off a training session after Arokodare refused to leave the pitch, although he has vehemently dismissed claims that he refused to train.

The incident kicked off when he joined a training session that he wasn’t scheduled to take part in.

His actions left a bad taste in the new manager’s mouth, and Arokodare was subsequently left out of Wolves’ friendly match against Maidenhead United.

Wolves are now set to cash in on the 25-year-old who only joined the club in 2025.

They paid £24m to sign Arokodare from Genk, but he failed to live up to expectations.

The Nigerian scored just six goals in 38 games for Wolves. However, if certain conditions are met, Wolves could recoup a significant portion of their initial investment.

Despite his training ground antics, Arokodare was in high demand this summer. Ajax have now won the race after agreeing to pay a £1m loan fee and cover the striker’s full salary.

The Dutch club have also agreed to additional bonus payments if they qualify for European competition during his time there.

Arokodare maintained that he had always acted professionally throughout his career.

In a statement shared on social media, he stressed that he has consistently worked hard in training and remained committed to giving his best whenever selected.

“Throughout my career, I have always taken great pride in conducting myself professionally and maintaining the highest training standards,” he wrote.

“My commitment has always been to prepare myself as well as possible so that I can contribute to my teammates and the club whenever I am called upon.

“I remain under contract with Wolves, and my only intention is to fulfil my responsibilities professionally by training, doing my job, and contributing to the team in accordance with that contract.”
