Champions chasing Champions League qualification

Liverpool travel to Wolves on Tuesday looking to continue their quest for Champions League qualification.

The Reds drew level on points with Manchester United over the weekend, with their 5-2 win over West Ham on Saturday hauling them into fifth in the Premier League table.

The Red Devils, however, pulled away on Sunday, beating Crystal Palace 2-1 at Old Trafford to reinstate their three-point cushion.

Arne Slot’s side benefitted, however, from Chelsea’s slip at Arsenal, as the Blues lost 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium.

Liverpool visit the league’s bottom side here, but Wolves are invigorated after a surprise victory over Aston Villa last time out, with the three points earned there meaning that they passed Derby County’s record-lowest points total of 11.

Rob Edwards’ men are almost certain to be relegated this term, but spirited performances in recent weeks have seen them take points off Arsenal, Newcastle, and relegation rivals Nottingham Forest.

The Black Country club are six points adrift at the bottom and 14 from safety.

This fixture will be the first of two that these sides play against each other this week, with Liverpool returning to Molineux on Friday for the FA Cup fifth round.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Wolves vs Liverpool is scheduled for an 8.15pm GMT kick-off on Tuesday, March 3 2026.

The match will take place at Molineux.

Wolves vs Liverpool team news

For the hosts, they are just one player down, with Hwang Hee-chan out with a calf injury that he sustained against Chelsea.

"Channy is out and it’ll be a few weeks," said Edwards. "It’s his calf. We’ll rescan again a couple of weeks and see where he’s at. But he’ll probably be a number of weeks."

As for the Premier League champions, they are without Florian Wirtz, who withdrew from the 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest after feeling a back injury in the warm-up.

Slot ruled him out of both games this week, but indicated that his summer signing could be set for a return next week.

Their four longer-term absentees - Alexander Isak, Conor Bradley, Wataru Endo and Giovanni Leoni - all remain out.

Wolves vs Liverpool prediction

Despite their victory over local rivals Villa last weekend, it seems a tricky proposition for Wolves to defeat a free-scoring Liverpool side.

Hugo Ekitike notched a goal and two assists against the Hammers last time out, while Cody Gakpo broke his duck at Anfield.

Despite Slot’s bemoaning of an over-reliance on set-plays this term, the Merseysiders have shown an impressive improvement at scoring from dead-ball scenarios, displaying their newfound prowess from corners by scoring from three set-pieces against West Ham.

With the Reds back in full flow, it might be difficult for Wolves to stop them.

Liverpool to win, 3-1.
