Women’s Euro 2025 gets underway in less than a week’s time and here we have a guide on Group B, which includes World Cup winners Spain, alongside Belgium, Italy, and Portugal.
Group B is expected to be dominated by Spain, the world champions and 2024 Women’s Nations League winners.
However, the fight for second promises to be fiercely competitive. Italy and Portugal are seen as potential dark horses while Belgium can cause an upset on their day.
Here, we take a look at each Group B side’s fixtures, players to watch, potential breakout stars, and their tournament odds – according to the best UK betting sites.
We’ll also give our predictions for how the group could unfold in Switzerland.
The first team in our Women’s Euro 2025 Group B guide is Belgium, who qualified for the tournament via the playoffs.
Belgium finished third in their group behind Spain and Denmark, before beating Greece 5-0 on aggregate and Ukraine 4-1 over two legs to make the tournament in Switzerland.
On their day they are capable of giving the top team’s a tough test. Belgium beat England 3-2 in April, and only lost 3-2 to Spain two months prior after conceding two goals in stoppage time.
However, there can be a defensive vulnerability to them which remains a concern. Since the turn of the year, they have lost 5-0 to England, 5-1 to Spain, and 5-0 to France.
One to watch: Tessa Wullaert – Belgium’s all-time leading scorer and captain. The 32-year-old Fortuna Sittard forward scored five goals during qualifying – four of which came in the playoffs.
Breakout star: Marie Detruyer – The 21-year-old Inter Milan midfielder played a big part in Belgium’s qualification for Euro 2025. She is part of a young generation of stars including Hannah Eurlings, Jill Janssens and Feli Delacauw who could play a big part for Belgium in the future.
Last Women’s Euros Campaign: Quarter-finals – Belgium achieved their best-ever Euros performance by reaching the quarter-finals at Euro 2022. Belgium lost 1-0 to Sweden after a 92nd minute goal from Linda Sembrandt.
Odds to win the tournament: 66/1
Prediction: Group stage – Belgium’s inconsistency will make it hard for them to qualify from Group B. Tessa Wullaert can trouble any team’s defence but the manager only joined in January so Euro 2025 could be a tournament for Belgium to learn and use to build towards the 2027 World Cup.
Italy will be eager to put past disappointments behind them after failing to win a game at Euro 2022 and being eliminated at the group stage of the 2023 World Cup
Andrea Soncin’s side qualified for Euro 2025 by finishing top of a group which also includes the Netherlands and Norway.
Italy finished the recent Nations League campaign strongly and are dark horses for this summer’s tournament.
One to watch: Manuele Giugliano – The 27-year-old Roma midfielder is one of the most creative players in the tournament. She is particularly effective from set-piece deliveries, assisting three goals in a recent 4-1 victory over Wales.
Breakout star: Emma Severini – The 21-year-old Fiorentina midfielder is one of the best young talents in Europe and could have a breakthrough tournament in Switzerland. Italy are without 18-year-old Giulia Dragoni who likely would have taken this spot, but will miss out due to an ankle injury.
Last Women’s Euros Campaign: Group stage – Italy endured a miserable group stage in 2022 taking just one point against Iceland, and losing to France and Belgium.
Odds to win the tournament: 25/1
Prediction: Semi-finals: Italy have enough to make it out of a difficult Group B behind Spain. Should Italy qualify they will face one of the teams from Group A. A place in the semi-finals is very achievable though a spot in the final could prove a step too far.
Portugal are a team on the up in women’s football. They have played at the last two Euros having never done so before, and also reached the Women’s World Cup for the first time in 2023.
However, the next step is becoming a team that can reach the knockout phase of these major tournaments.
Portugal booked their ticket to Switzerland with wins over Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic in the playoffs. Portugal had been on a 14-game unbeaten run from the start of 2024 to April 2025.
However, their final three Nations League matches were lost by an aggregate score of 16-1, with Spain and England scoring 13 of those goals.
One to watch: Kika Nazareth – The Barcelona attacker was a doubt for the tournament after rupturing a ligament in her ankle back in March. Kika defied the odds to make the squad much to the reported discontentment of her club. If fit to play a lot of minutes, she will be vital to Portugal’s hopes.
Breakout star: Andreia Jacinto – The 23-year-old Real Sociedad midfielder topped passing charts in Spain last season and is establishing herself as a key player for Portugal.
Last Women’s Euros Campaign: Group stage – Portugal crashed out of the group stage at Euro 2022 after defeats to Sweden and the Netherlands.
Odds to win the tournament: 50/1
Prediction: Group stage – Portugal appears to have taken a step back over the last two months with some heavy defeats after a prior impressive 14-game unbeaten run. Their fixture against Italy could prove crucial, but at the moment it appears that Andrea Soncin’s side have the edge.
Spain are undoubtedly the team to beat in Switzerland after winning the 2023 World Cup and the 2024 Women’s Nations League.
Montse Tome is now in charge after replacing Jorge Vilda following the scandal involving former Spanish Football Federation president Luis Rubiales.
Tomé has made bold selection calls, most notably leaving out Jenni Hermoso.
Spain sailed through qualifying and have only lost one game in their last 10 fixtures – a 1-0 defeat to England.
One to watch: Aitana Bonmati – There are many players to watch for Spain given the amount of world class players who are in Montse Tome’s side. Bonmati though is the current Ballon d’Or holder and is the one who sets the tempo for her side.
Breakout star: Vicky Lopez – The Barcelona teenager made our list of the 10 young players to watch at Women’s Euro 2025. The 18-year-old scored eight goals in 20 league appearances for Barcelona last season and she has drawn comparisons to Bonmati.
Last Women’s Euros Campaign: Quarter-finals – Spain finished second in their group at Euro 2022 behind Germany and would lose in extra-time to England in the quarter-finals thanks to a Georgia Stanway goal.
Odds to win the tournament: 2/1 (favourites)
Prediction: Winners – Spain are the favourites to win the tournament and it could come down to a repeat of the 2023 World Cup final against England. With the amount of world-class players in the Spain squad it would be a surprise not to see them win their first Euros.
