Chelsea will look to find a solution for midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka in January according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Chukuwuemeka arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2022 from Aston Villa in a deal worth £20m, but his time in west London has been plagued by injury.

The 20-year-old has made just 28 appearances for the club so far and despite his talent he simply hasn’t been able to keep himself fit.

After getting himself back to fitness at the back end of last season it appeared Chukwuemeka would be set for a role under Enzo Maresca after starting the first two games of pre-season.

However, since then he’s been limited to just 13 minutes of action against Barrow in the Carabao Cup and more often than not hasn’t even made the match day squad.

It was reported earlier this summer that Chukwuemeka had a £40m release clause in his contract and he was linked with a move to AC Milan, whilst there’s believed to have been interest from West Ham.

Chuwkuemeka ended up staying at the club and whilst he’s still training with the first team squad it’s quite clear he’s not a big part of Maresca’s plans.

The Italian once again said after the win against Brighton it would have been better for Chuwkuemeka to leave and go and get regular minutes and Romano has provided an update on his situation.

“Chelsea will look for a solution for Carney Chukwuemeka in January, as the player wants to play and Chelsea don’t want him out of the squad for too long,” he told his YouTube channel.

The problem for Chukwuemeka is there’s just so much competition for places in his position and he simply isn’t going to play ahead of the likes of Cole Palmer, Joao Felix, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.

It’s a shame because he is a really talented player, but unfortunately not all the signings will succeed at Chelsea and only the very best will make it.
