Saturday night wasn’t just a disappointing result for Chelsea, who let the game slip through their fingers, it was a disappointing performance.
Don’t be fooled by the fact that the Blues rallied late on and created some chances. In reality, they were poor for the vast majority of the game.
Cole Palmer scored a knockdown from a random cross chucked into the box, then Moises Caicedo blasted one in out of nowhere. This wasn’t the improvement in attacking play we’ve been looking for since about December.

A look at the stats from the game showed that the usual suspects shone. Caicedo got an 8 for another game where he put in tackles and made interceptions and kept the team’s head above water when they were really struggling.
Trevoh Chalobah had another great showing at the back – he stood up to Brentford’s physical challenge well.
Enzo Fernandez was praised by his manager for his performance, but only got a 6.7 here. He certainly could have done more creatively in a first half where the Blues’ only shot on target was a limp, desperate effort late on from Jamie Gittens.
Speaking of Gittens, he was really poor. He got a 6.1 rating for an ineffectual 45 minutes. We can’t see him getting ahead of Alejandro Garnacho or Estevao Wilian in the pecking order at this rate. Facundo Buonanotte got the same rating, although we thought he was actually decent in his time on the pitch.
Even worse was Jorrel Hato, who got a 5.9, the lowest on the pitch. He was also hauled off at half time.
It’s a worrying sign that 3 of our most recent arrivals to start got the worst rating. They may all need time to settle – and we don’t have time. We’ve got Bayern Munich and Manchester United coming up next week.
