FLW's Wrexham fan pundit shares their thoughts on Josh Windass' links to Rangers
Wrexham narrowly missed out on a place in the Championship play-offs on the final day, with Phil Parkinson's side certain to be eager to continue their steep upwards trajectory next campaign by bringing in additions and retaining their star players.
Indeed, having achieved back-to-back-to-back promotions from the National League to the Championship, the Red Dragons were aiming to make it four consecutive promotions in a row to become the first team in history to do so, and they very nearly gave themselves that opportunity.
A 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough, as well as Hull City defeating Norwich City 2-1 on the final day, meant the Welsh outfit narrowly missed out on a place in the top six, finishing 7th, two points behind the Tigers.
Parkinson's side has improved year upon year, and though the financial backing has been there, the way in which they have spent that money has been exceptional.
However, arguably, their signing of the season didn't cost them a penny, and ahead of the summer transfer window, Wrexham face a battle to retain his services amid strong interest from elsewhere.

Josh Windass joined Wrexham in the summer from Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer amid heavy interest from elsewhere, in what was viewed as a real coup for the Welsh outfit.
A real coup it has been, as the Englishman scored 15 and assisted six in 41 league games during his first season in North Wales, with his performances, unsurprisingly, not going unnoticed.
According to Ben Jacobs via X, Rangers are keen to bring Windass back to Ibrox after eight years away, with Danny Rohl interested in reuniting with the attacking-midfielder after their time together at Sheffield Wednesday.
Windass made 66 appearances under the German head coach across all competitions during their time together, scoring 20 and assisting seven, but with the 32-year-old under contract until the summer of 2028, a deal looks difficult, on the face of it.
Football League World's Wrexham fan pundit, Liam, has shared their thoughts on Windass' links to Rangers, whether they can see the 32-year-old leaving at all this summer, and how much they should realistically be asking for in the event of a sale.
Liam told FLW: "I really can't see us letting Windass go, to be honest.
"I know he's getting on a little bit age-wise, but his performance last season, double figures for goals and then a creative asset as well, despite not starting all the time, just proves how valuable he is to the side.
"We're not in the business of letting good players go anymore. That's something that's changed at the club. Rangers would have to make a very good offer for it to be worthwhile.
"I think Josh has sort of embedded himself in the club now. He enjoys being here as well, which is massive for retaining players. I mean, with the kind of output he produced last year, you don't see a normal player going for anything less than £7 million-£8 million on a normal day.
"I know Windass is a bit older; his contract isn't as long, but like I said, we're not in a position to sell. We're able to value the player as highly as we want, so I really can't see him leaving, to be honest."

The job Parkinson has done with Wrexham cannot be understated.
Whilst many will point to the fact that he has had ample financial backing in comparison to other clubs across the divisions, it's one thing to spend big, it's another to spend wisely, and Wrexham have done just that.
The capture of Windass cost the Red Dragons nothing in terms of fees spent, and his impact since his switch to North Wales has been extraordinary.
Meanwhile, each of Lewis O'Brien, George Thomasson, Kieffer Moore, and Callum Doyle have all arrived to great effect, and Parkinson will be keen to keep a hold of each and every one of them ahead of next season, especially Windass.
It will take a big fee for the Welsh outfit to part ways with Windass, and whether Rangers will be willing to stump up that sort of money for a 32-year-old is unlikely, but given their stance on a move remains unclear, this saga is one to keep an eye on.
