A third defeat in five matches has led to reports that the Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson's job could be at risk, and fans are divided on the subject.
The powers-that-be at Wrexham have reportedly been discussing the future of manager Phil Parkinson after their latest loss at the hands of Queens Park Rangers.
Despite extremely heavy spending during the summer, the Red Dragons have had a difficult start to life in the Championship, and it's now being reported that the club's ambitious owners are in talks over manager Phil Parkinson's future at the club, even though he masterminded their rapid ascent from the non-league game to the second tier.
The North Wales outfit were beaten 3-1 at home by QPR on Saturday, a result which left them in 21st place in the table, just two points above the relegation positions, and although it might be expected that a newly-promoted club could struggle to find their feet at their new, higher level, Wrexham's heavy spending over the summer has indicated that the club may not be in the mood to allow for a great deal of patience with him.
TalkSPORT have reported that the Wrexham hierarchy have held talks over whether to retain Phil Parkinson as their manager following their third defeat in five at the start of the new season, but the replies to their corresponding tweet on the subject from Wrexham fans have indicated that the fan base itself could be split over whether to stick or twist with the manager who's taken them from the National League to the Championship with three successive promotions.
But there doesn't seem to be much consensus among Wrexham fans over whether Parkinson should be allowed more time or not. One fan feels that Parkinson deserves it, even though the pressure on the manager will have grown this season.
This fan though, among others, believe that Parkinson may no longer be the right fit for the job after many years in charge and guiding them from non-league and into the Championship.
Another fan, meanwhile, feels that the club need to temper their ambitions a little, following their promotion at the end of last season, but that there was always a risk that Parkinson would come under such pressure if the team started the season slowly.
Another fan meanwhile has lamented Parkinson's footballing tactics, and has suggested that the Championship may potentially be too high for the manager's capabilities.
Wrexham's slow start to the 2025-26 season has demonstrated how big the leap from League One to the Championship can be.
Scoring goals hasn't been the issue, so far. Of the twelve clubs in the bottom half of the table, only Ipswich Town have scored more than the 8 that the Red Dragons have managed so far, and there are six clubs in the top half who haven't managed that many either.
But defensive profligacy has been an issue. Only five teams have conceded more, and one of those - Queens Park Rangers - conceded seven in one match.
The Queens Park Rangers match was a case in point, in this respect. Wrexham were already two goals down by half-time - including an own goal from big money signing Conor Coady - a state of affairs which left them chasing the game in the second half.
A similar flimsiness could be seen in throwing away a two-goal first half lead at home to the division's crisis club, Sheffield Wednesday, last month.
Parkinson's achievements as the manager of Wrexham have been record-breaking. No club has ever managed consecutive promotions from the National League to the Championship before.
But a lot of money has been spent, and football can be an unsentimental business at times. And the club's owners demonstrated that they're not afraid to make this sort of decision during the summer, when they released another player synonymous with the club's rise, Paul Mullin, to Wigan Athletic.
Everyone connected with Wrexham AFC will long hold a debt of gratitude to Phil Parkinson for getting them this far, but this will only provide him with temporary insulation in the event of the team struggling to find their feet in the Championship.
