Wrexham welcome Southampton to the STōK Cae Ras on Tuesday for a contest that could define the play-off race.
Just one point separates these two sides as they hunt a top-six finish. Wrexham currently occupy sixth place after a resilient 2–2 draw at West Bromwich Albion on Good Friday. Phil Parkinson’s men have been impressive in 2026, collecting 30 points from 16 matches.
Previously, the away side won the first two league meetings between these clubs in 1959. However, the home side has won every subsequent encounter since.
Southampton arrive in North Wales on a massive high after stunning Premier League leaders Arsenal in the FA Cup. That 2–1 victory at St Mary’s extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to 15 matches.
Tonda Eckert has overseen a remarkable 12-game unbeaten streak in the Championship. The Saints now look to keep three consecutive clean sheets for the first time since December 2023. Accordingly, they will aim to leapfrog their hosts with a win tonight.
Phil Parkinson expects to name a similar lineup to the side that fought back at The Hawthorns. Notably, Kieffer Moore returned from injury as a substitute and could remain on the bench today. Nathan Broadhead offers an alternative option in the final third if Parkinson chooses to rotate. In contrast, Liberato Cacace remains sidelined with a knee injury. Ben Sheaf and Matty James are also major doubts for the hosts.
Tonda Eckert will likely make several changes to introduce fresh legs after their weekend cup heroics. Crucially, Flynn Downes is available again after serving a one-match suspension. Cyle Larin and Shea Charles could return to the starting eleven in midfield and attack. Mads Roerslev and Welington both miss out due to knee and muscle injuries, respectively. Captain Jack Stephens also remains a doubt for the trip to Wales.
Wrexham have proved clinical at home, failing to score in only one of their last 25 league games. Their home record remains strong, with only five defeats in 20 matches at the Cae Ras. Nevertheless, defensive frailties persist for the Red Dragons. They have conceded 30 goals at home, which ranks among the division’s poorest returns.
Southampton are the Championship’s form team, having won nine of their last 12 league matches. Their recent win over Arsenal secured an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley. The Saints have only dropped points to Portsmouth, Charlton, and West Brom during their current 15-game run. In addition, they recently defeated league leaders Coventry City to maintain their automatic promotion hopes.
Wrexham Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Okonkwo; Cleworth, Hyam, Doyle; Kabore, Vyner, Dobson, Thomason; Windass, O’Brien; Smith
Southampton Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Peretz; Bree, Harwood-Bellis, Wood, Manning; Charles, Downes; Fellows, Archer, Azaz; Larin
Sky Sports will broadcast the match live in the UK. Coverage begins shortly before the 20:00 BST kick-off.
