Ivorian wonderkid is the envy of Europe’s biggest clubs

Real Madrid have sent shockwaves through the transfer market with a surprise €100m (£85.4m) bid for RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande.

Real have made great strides to overhaul Jose Mourinho’s squad this summer, and are said to be in the market to add Manchester City’s Rodri after adding the likes of Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries earlier in the window.

The move for Diomande, though, is their most audacious yet. The Ivorian winger had been of interest to a number of clubs so far this summer, notably Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain. Arsenal have also been linked.

Liverpool withdrew their interest in the 19-year-old in late June after seeing bids for his services rejected and being informed of his preference to move to Paris.

He agreed personal terms with the European champions earlier in the window, but PSG struggled to agree terms with Leipzig after weeks of talks and now face considerable competition for his signature.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Real has submitted a €100m bid, comprising of €90m up front and €10m in add-ons, though Leipzig have rejected the offer as they hold out for a package closer to €130m.

The Bundesliga side also hope to convince the young Ivorian to sign a new contract despite having a further four years to run on his current deal.

Should Diomande join Real, it would open the door for Brahim Diaz to leave the club before the window closes.

Diomande played a key role for Ivory Coast at the World Cup, notching one assist in four matches as Les Elephants exited in the last-32.

He was more productive in front of goal for Leipzig last season, though, notching 12 goals and eight assists in 33 Bundesliga appearances.
