Sunderland are shaping plans for a pivotal window as Regis Le Bris builds a squad for next season’s Europa League.

Foot Sur 7 claims Sunderland and Marseille are competing to sign Charleroi and Algeria midfielder Yassine Titraoui, 22. The report says the Algeria international with five caps favours Wearside and could be swayed by a more lucrative offer, with a fee of £7m to £10.5m suggested.

The Black Cats will play in Europe for only the second time in their history. Last weekend’s home win against Chelsea secured seventh place in their first season back in the Premier League.

Le Bris regards the window as important because recruitment can shape an entire campaign, yet he cautions that judging how players adapt to new environments is difficult. He notes assessments change with different connections, backgrounds, team-mates and opponents.

He believes the club’s structure has improved, with more people, tools and options, allowing Sunderland to scan a wider market than before. He says they will see what happens this summer.
