Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans missed the League Cup match against Brentford with a calf injury tonight.
He came off at half-time against Everton over the weekend, and manager Unai Emery would have hoped to have him back for the midweek tie.
The Villains need the 28-year-old midfield general back to his best soon, but they could be waiting until next month.
The next break starts on October 5, but he could feature in one of the fixtures against Feyenoord or Burnley before international duties.
The Belgian is a top midfielder on his day and is a key player to the club’s bid to bounce back from an atrocious start to the season.
Tielemans, who registered five goals and ten assists in 52 appearances last term, has not scored a goal or created a big chance this season.
The Villans are struggling and need Tielemans back fit and firing.
Villa are eager to kickstart their season after failing to win any of their opening three Premier League games without scoring.
Today’s clash with the Bees was an opportunity to find the spark that has been missing.
Jadon Sancho and Harvey Elliott started for Villa, but they were unable to help them reach the next round.
Brentford triumphed 4-2 after a penalty shoot-out, piling more misery on the Midlands outfit. Villa visit Sunderland in the Premier League on Sunday.
