Next Friday, Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium will host a decisive clash between South Africa and Zimbabwe.Group C of the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup is one of the tightest in the competition. Benin, South Africa, Nigeria, and Rwanda are locked in a fierce battle.This group recently experienced a major shake-up after FIFA’s decision to sanction South Africa with a loss to Lesotho for fielding a suspended player. That ruling has only intensified the race for top spot.Currently, Benin and South Africa are tied at the top with 14 points each. Nigeria sits third with 11 points, level with Rwanda but trailing on goals scored. With everything still up for grabs, qualification will go down to the final matchday.The last two rounds will take place on October 10 and 14. Benin will travel to Rwanda before hosting Nigeria. South Africa will play Zimbabwe away before welcoming Rwanda. Nigeria heads to Lesotho and will then host Benin on the final day.
