Before Montpellier’s 4-2 win over Le Mans on Saturday, Zoumana Camara confirmed that Becir Omeragic is leaving and voiced frustration at losing his captain, who is expected in Basel.

Omeragic had started whenever available and wore the armband this season, but he was omitted from the squad and Julien Laporte captained as his Montpellier chapter nears its end. “To go up, you need to put things in place and have ambition. That means recruiting well, consolidating the squad and strengthening it. Reinforcements also mean keeping your best players and adding others who bring value. When those things are not all in place, a coach is a little more measured,” he said, speaking to beIN Sports.

Le Mans struck first through Lucas Buades on 10 minutes, a goal that briefly made them virtual leaders. Montpellier took control after the break and closed out a 4-2 victory.

It was Montpellier’s third win in four Ligue 2 matches, and it ended Le Mans’ 17-game unbeaten run.

The Hérault side have not quite rejoined the leaders but eased the pressure, now three points behind Saint-Étienne and Dunkerque. A top five place remains within reach, although their results have been inconsistent.
