105 goals and no end in sight: Bayern reach for Europe’s record

FC Bayern not only wrote Bundesliga history with their 5-0 win over FC St. Pauli, but also catapulted themselves into a much larger European dimension. With 105 goals for the season, the Munich side have now surpassed their own record from the 1971/72 season – and with several match days to go

But that’s not all: the focus has long been on the next milestone. Vincent Kompany’s team could even enter the history books of the entire top European leagues at the end of the season

European record within reach

FC Torino currently hold the all-time record with 125 goals from the 1947/48 season – a mark that was long considered almost unattainable. But with Bayern’s current attacking power, even this record no longer seems completely out of reach

The record champions are currently averaging 3.6 goals per game, which would result in around 123 goals by the end of the season – putting them in second place in the all-time scoring charts ahead of Real Madrid, who scored 121 goals in 2011/12

However, it should not be forgotten that Torino had played 40 games back then – six more than Bayern in the Bundesliga – so the conditions are not directly comparable, which further underlines Munich’s performance

Kompany’s offense knows no limits

What makes Bayern so special at the moment is not just the number of goals, but the way in which they are scored. The team does not stop even when the score is clear, consistently looks for the way forward and remains dangerous throughout the 90 minutes

Players such as Michael Olise, Harry Kane and Luis Díaz are emblematic of this new, merciless efficiency in attack, but players from the second tier also regularly provide goals and assists

Historic opportunity at the end of the season

With 105 goals, Bayern are „only“ in 18th place in the all-time rankings – but with one crucial difference: no other team in the top 20 has played so few games at this point

Just five more goals could catapult Munich into the top 10, and if the offense maintains its form, an attack on the European all-time record is even a realistic scenario
