12 players to have represented both Real Madrid and Athletic Club

According to as.com, 12 footballers have played for both Real Madrid and Athletic Club over the decades.
Luis Bergareche featured for Athletic in 1928-29, then for Real Madrid in 1929-30. Juan Urquizu played for Madrid in 1928-29 before joining Athletic from 1929-30 to 1934-35. Luis María de Uribe followed a similar route, Madrid in 1928-29 then Athletic from 1929-30 to 1933-34.
Hermenegildo Elices represented Athletic from 1933-34 to 1944-45, then Madrid from 1944-45 to 1947-48, and Cándido Gardoy Martín, “Macala”, played for Athletic in 1939-40 before Madrid from 1947-48 to 1950-51. Antonio Ortiz Alonso was at Athletic from 1940-41 to 1945-46, then with Madrid in 1947-48 and 1948-49. Manuel Martínez Canales, “Manolín”, was with Athletic from 1949-50 to 1954-55, then Madrid from 1954-55 to 1956-57.
Mikel Lasa joined Real Madrid from 1991-92 to 1996-97, then moved to Athletic from 1997-98 to 2000-01. Aitor Karanka came through Bilbao Athletic in 1992-93, stepped up to the first team from 1993-94 to 1996-97, played for Madrid from 1997-98 to 2001-02, and returned to Athletic in 2002-03. Rafael Alkorta rose from Bilbao Athletic in 1984-85 to the first team in 1987-88, stayed until 1992-93, signed for Madrid from 1993-94 to 1996-97, then rejoined Athletic from 1997-98 to 2001-02.
Ismael Urzaiz emerged from Madrid’s academy, making one Copa appearance and another in the European Cup for the first team. At Athletic he spent 11 seasons, playing 419 matches and scoring 128 goals.
Kepa Arrizabalaga came through Athletic’s ranks from 2004 and debuted for the first team in September 2016, playing until 2018. He joined Real Madrid in August 2023 on loan from Chelsea after Courtois suffered a long-term injury, staying until the end of the season.
