Liverpool are heading into the summer transfer window with uncertainty surrounding several stars.
Most pressing is the contract case of Ibrahima Konate. The Frenchman was signed from RB Leipzig back in 2021 for a fee of £35m.
Following a few indifferent seasons owing to injury troubles the 26-year-old finally established himself as first-choice alongside Virgil van Dijk in the 2024/25 season.
Konate and VVD anchored the defence in the Premier League title win but there is a fear it could prove to be a short-lived partnership.
Club officials have been in discussions with Konate for more than a year around a renewal with no success to date. Konate is reported to be on around £150k per week with no breakthrough yet reached with Richard Hughes over a renewal.
That has opened the door to potential suitors - with Real Madrid reckoned to be on the list of interested clubs.
Madrid have not made a commitment one way or another over a lucrative free transfer - but it is believed that Konate would favour a move to the Bernabeu.
The 15-time European champions are set for a centre-back shakeup of their own over the summer when David Alaba - and potentially Antonio Rudiger - leave.
Konate was seen as an ideal candidate to arrive given his lack of transfer fee but Madrid have maintained only silence.
A report in AS now claims that Konate is determined to force through a move to the Spanish giants and is currently waiting on an offer from the capital city club.
“Nothing has been finalized with the Spanish giants, but Konaté is reportedly intrigued by the idea of a move to Madrid,” the report reads. “He is prepared to wait for the right offer to arrive.”
