The timeline for a preferred bidder being named for Sheffield Wednesday has received an update
A preferred bidder for Sheffield Wednesday is unlikely to be named before the end of this week, with a significant £15 million payment to previous owner Dejphon Chansiri also imposing difficulty in the Owls' ongoing search for fresh ownership after going into administration and seeing the unpopular Thai buisnessmn depart Hillsborough.
According to Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett, there has been a delay from some of the final offers from would-be bidders for the Owls.
The Yorkshire outfit went into administration in late October after significant financial issues that included the failure to pay staff and players on time on multiple occasions throughout 2025, finding themselves under a litany of EFL embargoes as a result.
Begbies Traynor have been appointed as administrators, and they are seeking the sale of the Championship club, with a number of names linked with a takeover.
Billionaire John McEvoy has been mentioned as a possible buyer, as well as former Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley.

It has been reported that prospective Sheffield Wednesday buyers have delayed their final offers before a preferred bidder will be named.
It’s believed that there are some reservations regarding a potential £15 million sum that will be owed to Chansiri as part of any takeover.
It’s expected that the final price to buy Sheffield Wednesday will amount to around the £30 million mark, although that could increase depending on the intensity of the competition to secure a deal.
The sale will require the new owner to pay off the Owls’ creditors to the tune of 25c to the pound, meaning the £62.5 million owed to Chansiri will see him set around £15 million.
It’s understood that this figure is proving a stumbling block, with deep dives now being done on the Championship side’s accounts as we reach the final stages of this takeover negotiation process.
Sheffield Wednesday have been deducted 18 points already this season, leaving Henrik Pedersen’s side bottom of the table, and 28 points clear of safety.

Sheffield Wednesday supporters will be dismayed to see Chansiri get anything from the sale of the club given how he managed their finances.
However, that is the terms of a sale at present, and the reality is that this is a payment the new owners will have to make in order to get their hands on the Owls.
Ultimately, the £30 million figure could be quite a good price to pay for a team of Sheffield Wednesday’s size and stature, so in the long run it should work out fine.
