Following Everton’s draw with West Ham United on Monday night, various outlets have released their Premier League Teams of the Week for the most recent round of fixtures.
The BBC’s Troy Deeney has selected Arsenal’s Eberechi Eze for his team, writing that the midfielder was “easily the best player on the pitch” against Newcastle.
Deeney explained: “If it wasn’t for Nick Pope he would have had a hat-trick on the day. He opens up so much for Viktor Gyokeres, for Bukayo Saka, for Leandro Trossard.
“You have so much to worry about because he just blends into these wonderful positions, he can shoot from the edge of the box which now nobody is really doing.
“Once he is shooting, it forced the defending team to come out and try and close the shots down which opens up space for other people. He was great.”

Then Gabriel Magalhaes made it into WhoScored’s Team of the Week after his last-minute winning goal for the Gunners.
As well as his goal, Gabriel made 11 clearances, blocked two shots, made three interceptions and two tackles without being dribbled past once, and he won 12 of his 15 individual duels.
It was a very impressive display almost completely undone by one instance where Nick Woltemade got the better of him to score Newcastle’s opening goal. Fortunately, Gabriel was able to respond with a goal of his own to cancel out that one bad moment.

Martin Odegaard also made an impressive cameo in the Newcastle clash, but he didn’t play enough of the match to earn a spot despite arguably changing the game. Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber can feel hard done by to miss out, but not everyone can make it in every week.
