A look at two players who could be on the move from Ewood Park next year

The 2024 summer transfer window looks to have been a rather successful one for Blackburn Rovers.

Despite a slow start to the window, the Ewood Park club managed to bring a total of nine new first-team players into John Eustace's side.

Makhtar Gueye, Yuki Ohashi, Andi Weimann, Danny Batth, Balasz Toth and Todd Cantwell have all moved to Lancashire on a permanent deal.

Meanwhile, Owen Beck, Lewis Baker and Amario Cozier-Duberry have joined on loan from Liverpool, Stoke City and Brighton respectively.

As a result, they do look to have strengthened their squad, despite the sales of Sammie Szmodics, Sam Gallager, Semir Telalovic and Leo Wahlstedt.

Jake Garrett and Connor O'Riordan have also been loaned out to League One sides Bristol Rovers and Cambridge United.

While the window is now closed until January, there may already be some individuals considering moves away from Ewood Park for next year.

So with that in mind, we've taken a look at two Blackburn Rovers players who could be tempted by a move elsewhere in 2025, right here.

Arnor Sigurdsson

Last summer, Arnor Sigurdsson made the move to Ewood Park after pausing his contract with CSKA Moscow.

That deal was then made permanent back in December, but after an encouraging start to life in Lancashire, the winger has struggled to consistently maintain his form.

The situation for the Iceland international has not been helped by injuries, and he does not currently appear to be first choice for Eustace.

Indeed, Sigurdsson is yet to start a game in the Championship for Blackburn this season, remaining on the bench last time out at Burnley, despite his stunning winner against Oxford the week before.

Meanwhile, Rovers have added to their wide options this summer, and could do so again in January, with Cesena's Augustus Kargbo and Fulham's Martial Godo both being linked.

Those signings would put Sigurdsson's place in the side under more scrutiny, and so with his contract set to expire in the summer of 2025, the 25-year-old may feel this is a good time to consider his potential options elsewhere.

Zak Gilsenan

Another winger who may be considering his future at Ewood Park - albeit on a shorter-term basis - amid those others links, is Zak Gilsenan.

The Republic of Ireland youth international stood out for Blackburn in the early rounds of the Carabao Cup, and at youth level last season.

However, injuries meant he made just two late substitute appearances in the Championship, and fitness problems have prevented him from featuring so far this season.

Given the options that Eustace now has out wide, it could be hard for the 21-year-old to force his way into the side when he returns to full fitness.

That will be further enhanced if they do get those signings in, which would be frustrating for Gilsenan, when he is at an age where many players are starting to experience senior football.

A loan move in January could therefore make sense for the winger, to get him that game time, and rebuild his fitness after a spell out of the side.

It could also put him in a stronger position to challenge for a place in the side when he returns to Ewood Park, with Blackburn holding an option to extend his contract until the summer of 2026.

Given the promise and potential the young winger has already shown, that is a clause that Rovers will surely want to trigger, meaning a loan move next year would surely make more sense than a sale.
