Paderborn handed their destiny for Bundesliga promotion to Elversberg and Hannover after a 2-2 home draw against Karlsruhe. Filip Bilbija’s 15th goal of the season seemed to be the difference between the sides for a long spell before Karlsruhe scored twice in the space of four second-half minutes.

The hosts have previously won every time Bilbija scored this season, but that stat has changed in their last home game of the season. Clinical finishes by Fabian Schleusener and Shio Fukuda changed the course of the match as Christian Eichner’s men were looking to win 2-1 in back-to-back weeks.

Substitute Sebastian Klaas rescued a point for the hosts five minutes before the end of regular time. However, Paderborn were desperate for the winner as they sent their goalkeeper Tjark Scheller for a last-gasp corner-kick.

Their late effort wasn’t successful as Paderborn went four games without a win. Ralf Kettemann was very emotional when they greeted their fans for the support throughout the season. Paderborn's coach also entered a mass confrontation right after the final whistle.

If Elversberg and Hannover win their respective games on Sunday, Paderborn will start next week’s decider in Darmstadt in fourth place. Karlsruhe will have no chance of surpassing Hertha BSC in seventh place even if they win their last home game of the season against Bochum.
