Arminia Bielefeld 2-0 SV Elversberg

Arminia Bielefeld produced one of the shocks of the weekend with a disciplined display against high-flying Elversberg.

The visitors dominated possession early on, but Mitch Kniat’s men executed their counterattacking game plan perfectly. The opener came after 17 minutes - Noah Sarenren-Bazee launched a rapid break, sliding in Joel Grodowski, who lashed home past Nicolas Kristof for his fifth of the season.

Things went from bad to worse for Elversberg just 12 minutes later when Florian Le Joncour inadvertently turned Sarenren-Bazee’s cross into his own net, gifting Arminia a 2-0 lead at the break.

Vincent Wagner’s side continued to see plenty of the ball but looked uncharacteristically blunt in attack. Younes Ebnoutalib came closest, striking the post from Tom Zimmerschied’s delivery, but the visitors never found their rhythm.

Arminia’s defence stood firm to secure a statement win, ending a four-match losing streak and climbing to eighth - at least temporarily. For Elversberg, it was a rare off day and a first defeat in ten league games.

Dynamo Dresden 1-2 SC Paderborn

A tightly contested first half in Dresden saw both sides waiting for the other to make the first move. The deadlock was finally broken on 26 minutes when Tjark Scheller brought down Niklas Hauptmann in the box - Christoph Daferner converted confidently from the spot to give the hosts the lead.

Parity was restored right before the interval when Paderborn were awarded a penalty of their own, Konrad Faber penalised for handball. Filip Bilbija stepped up and made no mistake, sending the teams into the break level.

Paderborn came out with renewed purpose after the restart, forcing Lennart Grill into several saves before Mika Baur struck on 65 minutes with a fine low finish from the edge of the area to make it 2-1.

Dresden pushed hard for an equaliser, but goalkeeper Dennis Seimen produced a strong late stop to deny them at the death.Another frustrating home result leaves Thomas Stamm’s side languishing in 16th and still searching for form. Ralf Kettemann’s Paderborn, meanwhile, continue their remarkable run - a sixth consecutive victory sees them leapfrog Elversberg into second, making them the league’s most in-form side.

Holstein Kiel 1-1 VfL Bochum

On the day they celebrated their 125th anniversary, Holstein Kiel were keen to mark the occasion with a win, starting brightly and pressing Bochum from the off. Jonas Therkelsen went close early on, curling narrowly wide in the opening exchanges.

Both teams showed attacking intent but largely cancelled each other out, with the first half ending goalless.

Nine minutes after the restart, Kiel’s celebrations were dampened when Bochum were awarded a penalty. Marko Ivezić brought down Caetjan Lenz, allowing the in-form Francis Onyeka to send Jonas Krumrey the wrong way and give Uwe Rösler’s side a surprise lead.

Kiel responded strongly, with Timo Horn called into action several times as the hosts chased an equaliser. Just when it seemed Bochum would hang on, Louis Köster rose highest to head home Alexander Bernhardsson’s cross, ensuring Kiel at least salvaged a deserved point.

It’s now three draws in four for Kiel, who will know wins must come soon to avoid sliding down the table. For Bochum, it’s a solid away point and further proof of progress under Rösler as they edge further from danger.
