The duo have been tipped to leave St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park ahead of the new season
Birmingham City's second successive Championship season is weeks away from starting against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, and once again plenty of eyes are being cast on the club in terms of transfer activity.
Chris Davies will take charge of his third term since being appointed by Knighthead Capital Management in June 2024, and the 41-year-old has already made two acquisitions in what has been a slow-moving summer window, although the pace will likely step up given the pending conclusion of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Jhon Solis has seen his loan switch from Girona FC turned permanent, while Dael Fry has been acquired on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Middlesbrough.
No outgoings have yet been rubber-stamped, although the aforementioned 41-year-old dropped a significant hint on the omissions of Kai Wagner and Kyogo Furuhashi during Wednesday's 3-0 win over Solihull Moors at Damson Park.
“There’s been a few things happening in the background and that will become clearer in the next 48 hours but tonight wasn’t a night to include them," he said.
It has since been reported that Philadelphia Union are on the cusp of re-signing the German full-back, who has played just 16 times for Blues since joining from the MLS side in January, whilst Kyogo's future has been speculated on for several months after a severely underwhelming 2025/26 season, during which he netted just three times in all competitions after signing from Stade Rennais.
However, Football League World have looked at two more of Davies' squad who could follow Wagner and the Japanese forward out of St. Andrew's between now and Deadline Day, which falls on September 1st.
If Kyogo is to depart this summer, after seeing reunion links with Celtic emerge in January, it will be intriguing to see how Davies reshuffles his attacking department, which is still fairly stacked.
However, it also remains to be seen if £1.75m buy, Marvin Ducksch, also plays out a second season at St. Andrew's, with the German becoming the subject of exit talk himself in recent weeks and months.
At 32 years of age, the forward does have bags of experience, and scored 11 times in 36 appearances last season, but also reportedly has a €1m non-promotion release clause in his contract, which could attract suitors.
Even more so, the striker received plenty of intense reactions from supporters in April when he was banned from driving for 14 months and handed fines in excess of £20,000 for causing a three-car collision near Blues' training ground.
He has also spoken out about a potential return to his home country, revealing in June: "I’m definitely in talks with several clubs, including some in the Bundesliga. But it’s still relatively early."
As such, this is another transfer story to keep plenty of eyes on.
Taylor Gardner-Hickman played a key role in Birmingham's League One title success two seasons ago, able to plug various gaps in Davies' setup after being loaned in from Bristol City.
The 24-year-old then saw a permanent move on a four-year contract become official last July, but due to Blues' ambition and major squad reshuffle, he was loaned out to Blackburn Rovers under his former West Bromwich Albion boss, Valerien Ismael.
He was then one of Rovers' most impressive performers despite their struggles under the Frenchman, who was dismissed in February and replaced by Michael O'Neill on a short-term basis.
However, whilst the East Lancashire side's form did improve, Gardner-Hickman's minutes were reduced under the Northern Irishman, which then made it apparent that he would not be returning to Ewood Park on a permanent basis.
That said, with Blues also having Solis, Tomoki Iwata and Paik Seung-ho as currently favoured midfield options, whilst more additions cannot be ruled out, it is hard to see how the Telford-born man would source regular minutes if he remained in B9.
