2 Premier League targets that should be on Reading FC's radar this week | OneFootball

The Royals should have a couple of top-flight players on their radar, with the loan market likely to be utilised by the League One club.

Reading are likely to be busy in the loan market during the latter stages of the summer transfer window.

Due to the takeover situation, the Royals have been unable to make any signings so far this summer.

They may have made a fairly decent start to the league season, but the Berkshire side clearly need more depth in their team if they are to be successful this season.

The inexperience in their starting lineup against Colchester United in the EFL Cup earlier this month reinforces the need for more players to come in and they could potentially make some decent additions between now and the end of the summer window.

They may even need to use the free agent market once the transfer window has closed, but Brian Carey and other key recruitment figures at the Select Car Leasing Stadium will be keen to poach as many of their targets as they can before the end of play on August 30th.

Reading remain under a transfer embargo at this stage, but they have worked under restrictions for a number of years now and the loan market could be a lifeline for them.

We take a look at two players from the Premier League that the Royals should consider recruiting on a temporary deal.

Harvey Vale

Harvey Vale is a versatile talent who can play in numerous positions and that's ideal for a side that need depth but may only be able to recruit a limited number of players before the transfer window closes.

The Chelsea man has been out on loan before, spending last season on loan at Bristol Rovers and doing a respectable job there, spending a decent chunk of the campaign at left-back.

Despite spending plenty of time in defence, he still contributed plenty in the final third for Matt Taylor's side and with this in mind, he could be an excellent addition for the Royals.

Jeriel Dorsett is the Berkshire side's only senior option at left-back right now and with this in mind, another option in that area will be required.

Vale can also play in central midfield and as a winger - two other areas that need looking at.

One more option in central midfield would be ideal and they could benefit from adding more quality to their wing area - regardless of whether Femi Azeez leaves or not.

Vale is still young and with another former Chelsea player in Ben Elliott doing well at the SCL Stadium, the Royals could be tempted to make an approach for the 20-year-old.

Harvey Blair

As mentioned above, the wing area is one that needs to be looked at, even with Azeez, Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan, and Mamadi Camara currently available as options.

With Dom Ballard and Paul Mukairu no longer at the club, a failure to address the wing area could leave the Berkshire outfit short of firepower during the 2024/25 campaign.

Liverpool's wide man Harvey Blair could be a good addition for the Royals, having taken an interest in him last summer.

Unfortunately, an injury ruled out a potential move for him at that point, but he looks set to leave Anfield this summer.

The Reds are reported to be open to a sale, but that shouldn't deter the Royals from making a potential loan bid for him, or they could negotiate a free transfer with the Merseyside club retaining a huge sell-on percentage.

Portsmouth have been linked with a move for him though, so Ruben Selles' side would face competition for his signature if they entered the race.

He's a young player who's worth pursuing though.
