FC Barcelona already have a crowded goalkeeper picture for 2026-27, but Aron Yaakobishvili is emerging as a real in-house option for the third-choice role. The 20-year-old is still out on loan, and there are good updates on his progress.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barca currently have six goalkeepers under contract across the wider structure, with Joan Garcia and Wojciech Szczesny in the first-team picture, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Inaki Pena and Yaakobishvili out on loan, and Diego Kochen also in the frame from the reserve level.

Yaakobishvili is said to be pushing specifically for the third-goalkeeper slot. The club have been monitoring him closely and view him as someone who could fit into the senior goalkeeping group. His spell at Andorra has been judged positively overall, even if he is not currently starting there.

Yaakobishvili is under contract with Barcelona until 2028 and has made 21 appearances during his loan. He has been out of the side for the last four matches for technical reasons, but neither Andorra nor the Catalan club doubt his quality.

Third goalkeeper is not just a spare slot, it is a role that can either reward a trusted academy profile or force the club into another external move. Yaakobishvili feels like the more natural Barca solution. He knows the environment, the club already renewed him with the first team in mind, and his loan appears to have done what it was supposed to do, expose him to senior football and test his readiness.

The Hungarian youngster has widely been touted as a huge talent in the goalkeeping position. Before Barcelona thrust him into the third-choice goalkeeping role in the first team, they could potentially send him out on another loan or two, see him mature and then make that decision.
