Olympique de Marseille unveiled a new club crest on Wednesday during its foundation gala, its first redesign since 2004 and the 12th in its history.
The badge adopts a rounder silhouette than the current version, nodding to the mark used from 1935 to 1972. The club said in a statement that the design foregrounds the team’s founding symbols and blends elements from several eras.
It cited a white ring inspired by the 1973 logo, an M structure inherited from 1899, the curves and line energy from 1986, and the double ring associated with 1993.
The colour, named ‘Bleu Marseille’, is described as a new creation synthesising the club’s historic blues with those of the city, from street signs to the calanques and a mistral sky.
The typography draws on the club’s archival origins and Marseille’s popular, Mediterranean identity.
The crest keeps the motto ‘Droit au But’ and the star marking the 1993 Champions League triumph.
