Karim Adeyemi has only just arrived at FC Barcelona, but history suggests he is joining the club through a route that has produced several memorable success stories.

The German winger completed his first training sessions under Hansi Flick this week, becoming the latest player to swap Borussia Dortmund for the Blaugrana.

According to MARCA, Barcelona’s recent track record with former Dortmund players offers plenty of encouragement. Robert Lewandowski, Ilkay Gundogan, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ousmane Dembele all enjoyed productive spells at the club after leaving the Bundesliga side.

Lewandowski became Barcelona’s attacking leader after arriving in 2022, delivering goals consistently before leaving the club this summer.

Gundogan made an immediate impact during his only season in Catalonia, quickly establishing himself as one of the team’s most influential midfielders before financial circumstances led to his departure.

Aubameyang’s stay lasted just six months, but he made a lasting impression with crucial goals, including standout performances against Valencia and Real Madrid.

Dembele’s Barcelona career was more complicated because of recurring injuries, but his talent was undeniable. Across six seasons, he produced moments of genuine brilliance and played a major role in several successful campaigns.

Adeyemi now becomes the latest former Dortmund player hoping to make his mark at Barca.

Adeyemi has the tools to continue the trend

Every one of those players arrived with different qualities, but they shared one important characteristic: they suited Barcelona’s style of football.

Adeyemi appears to fit that profile as well. His pace, direct running and willingness to press aggressively should give Flick another dynamic option in attack alongside Lamine Yamal, Anthony Gordon and Raphinha.

Unlike some of his predecessors, Adeyemi joins a squad built around young players entering their prime rather than one beginning a new cycle. That could make his adaptation even smoother.

Of course, past success guarantees nothing. Adeyemi will still need to earn his place and adjust to the demands of playing for Barcelona.

Even so, the list of former Dortmund players who flourished in Blaugrana colours is an encouraging one. If Adeyemi can match the commitment and impact shown by those before him, Barcelona may have found another signing capable of becoming an important part of Flick’s evolving project.
