The former Stoke City boss was sacked on Monday morning, and others will now be interested in his services.

Steven Schumacher's sacking on Monday morning could set in motion a huge change in the EFL in the coming weeks, as other clubs look at changing their managers.

The now former Stoke boss was relieved of his duties following the Potters' 1-0 defeat to Oxford United on Saturday, their third loss in the Championship this season.

However, a large proportion of supporters at the bet365 Stadium are still confused as to why Schumacher was sacked after a promising summer.

Nevertheless, the conveyor belt of managerial jobs will bring about a new role for the 40-year-old very soon, and Football League World has taken a look at three clubs in the EFL who may take an interest in him.

Cardiff City

Cardiff City have had a dismal start to the 2024/25 campaign, and are currently rock bottom of the Championship on just one point.

They've scored just once in their opening five matches, and a 1-0 defeat to Derby County on Saturday has put further pressure on Erol Bulut this week. The 49-year-old sent his assistant, Omer Riza, to complete media duties after the loss at Pride Park Stadium.

Results need to get better quickly for Bulut, who joined the Bluebirds last July, and Schumacher's availability will only increase pressure on the Cardiff boss, who looks likely to be sacked ahead of this weekend's fixture against Leeds United.

Schumacher has proven in his relatively short time in management already that he can work under a tight budget, a trait of the Bluebirds under Vincent Tan. Bulut has struggled to get the best out of the players that have been brought in, while seemingly isolating others.

Rubin Colwill is a fine example of a player who would excel under the guidance of Schumacher. The 22-year-old was Cardiff's biggest threat against the Rams last Saturday, but has struggled for game-time under the current manager.

The former Stoke manager proved during his time with Plymouth Argyle his ability to develop young talent, with Morgan Whittaker coming on leaps and bounds since he first made the move to Home Park in 2022, and this is a skill that could be carried on if his former boss is hired in South Wales.

Bolton Wanderers

Bolton Wanderers' start to the new League One campaign is showing all the signs of a hangover that has carried through from last season.

At the heart of the Trotters' troubles has been Ian Evatt, who is facing huge pressure from supporters to change the club's fortunes after winning just one of their first five League One matches.

Bolton were beaten finalists in the play-offs last year, succumbing to a 2-0 defeat to Oxford, who in turn have started brilliantly in the Championship.

Matt Craddock, a member of Evatt's backroom staff, has been made the scapegoat for the terrible opening month, and has reportedly left the club, but there is now even more urgency needed by the manager to get results on the board.

Schumacher has proven his abilities in the past in the third tier, winning the division with Plymouth in 2022/23, and he could be the man to get Bolton back into the Championship.

His style of play fits perfectly into the way League One operates, and Bolton are lacking a leader at the moment, something that the 40-year-old clearly is.

Evatt has spent four years at the Toughsheet Community Stadium and looks to have over-stayed his welcome now. Bringing in a fresh pair of hands such as Schumacher to fix the evident problems could be the trick in to getting the Greater Manchester-based club back on track.

Hull City

Following the sacking of Liam Rosenior in the summer, Tim Walter was brought to Hull City in the hopes of making the best out of a bid situation following a huge failure to not reach the play-offs last season.

However, his first month in England has not gone to plan, and the Tigers are currently without a win after five matches.

They have also scored just twice, a statistic that will worry supporters if it is not fixed quickly, and the project that Walter planned on is already going up in flames.

Walter's tactics were far too obvious to Chris Wilder and his Sheffield United side last Friday, and they were eased past by their opponents. Bringing in a manager who understands the division and has proven success in the country recently could be the way to fix their season before it is far too late.

Hull have been far too open at times in 2024/25, and Walter will have to change the way he sets up his defence to protect them, otherwise he faces the strong possibility of losing his job. Schumacher has proven his tactical strengths in setting up his defence in the past, conceding just 47 goals in 46 games as Plymouth won the League One title in 2022/23.

With every missed chance of getting that first win, the pressure will grow on the German manager, and although his CV is extremely good, there could be regrets from the club's hierarchy if they miss out on the chance of bringing Schumacher to the MKM Stadium.
