Saturday’s match ended Newcastle 0 Brighton 1.

Ahead of each match we ask one of our writers to come up with three positives and three negatives following the game.

Plenty to talk about after this one…

On this occasion it is ‘Matt Busby said to Joe Harvey…’:

POSITIVES

We was robbed

Looking at the stats, we dominated possession, had more shots (both on and off target), had more touches in our opponents box, and a better XG tally. We shouldn’t have lost.

Chelsea (twice) up next

In the space of ten days we play Roman Abramovich’s former club twice and that’s a great opportunity to exorcise today’s demons. Back to back wins against the Londoners and today’s disappointment is surely forgotten.

Yankubah Minteh didn’t score

Yankubah Minteh was sold by Newcastle United in the summer to avoid a PSR disaster.

The youngster from Gambia has impressed since joining the Sussex outfit and I was relieved that he didn’t even make the bench today after picking up a knock whilst on international duty.

Had he played, I just know he would have scored.

NEGATIVES

Eddie, Eddie, Eddie, OUT, OUT, OUT

Okay, I’m being deliberately provocative but is Eddie still the man?

Tactically, I don’t see much in the way of progress and maybe he’s taken us as far as he can.

There aren’t many serial winners around, which is my point. Maybe Eddie should have been peddled after failing to win the League Cup?

It’s worth pausing to think where we’d be this evening if Unai Emery had been persuaded to come to St James back in 2021.

We can’t score for toffee

Not many teams have scored fewer goals in the league than NUFC and this was our fourth consecutive match where we didn’t score from open play.

Alex Isak looks off the pace.

Anthony Gordon missed sitters again and as for Callum Wilson, will he ever don the black and white shirt again?

It’s been well documented that our recognised strikers miss plenty of matches and so we bought someone for £10 million in the summer who Eddie has no intention of playing.

My Saturday was spoiled

Saturday night after a home win is special.

The town is bouncing and the feel good factor radiates out across Tyneside.

Losing makes Saturday evening pretty miserable.
